Roof Replacement Under Existing Solar Panels — A California Homeowner's Review

Their roofing expertise is what saved me. Roof replacement with an existing solar panel system is an ACTUAL service that Green Conception provides.

“I couldn't ignore the many shingles blown off my roof anymore (thank you Santa Ana winds) but didn't realize how difficult it would be to re-roof with existing solar panels that would need to be PROPERLY removed and reinstalled. The general contractors I contacted initially said they would have to ‘contract out’ the solar panel removal, and even a couple of other solar companies didn't do roofing at all. No hemming and hawing about price, no hard sell to upgrade the solar system. Very professional and knowledgeable — I had no idea roofing materials made a difference for solar. All in all, very happy with them.”

How long does a residential solar installation take in California?

From signed contract to Permission to Operate (PTO), a typical California residential solar installation runs 2 to 5 months depending on utility, HOA, and permit backlog. The 2025–2026 tax-credit rush pushed timelines toward the longer end. We give homeowners realistic dates up front — even when the answer is longer than they'd like. “I found them through EnergySage and they provided a competitive quote. They took a lot of time with me on my initial phone call and answered quite a lot of questions I had. Once we signed the quote, we first had to have some roof work done. Green Conception was up front about how soon we could schedule the installation after the roof work was done, so we weren't surprised when it took awhile. Their team showed up on time and worked efficiently.”

Will the solar crew coordinate with my other contractors and the city inspector?

Solar installations rarely happen in isolation. Pool builds, ADU projects, main panel upgrades, and remodels usually put multiple trades on-site at once, plus the AHJ inspector and the utility. Our project managers coordinate scheduling, inspection windows, and interconnection with the electric utility as part of every install. Eric had a pool, a new sub-panel, and concrete happening simultaneously.
